the story of

Ffion is an experienced foster carer with a wealth of knowledge to share from her time with children in the Caerphilly area.

the foster family

Having lived in Caerphilly all her life, Ffion has been a single foster parent for more than 15 years.

“The Local Authority fostering team here in Caerphilly has been fabulous. I think they’re one of the reasons why I’m still a foster parent. They’re a bit like me in a way. They’re mostly local people who just want to help these children and give them a loving home.”

Now well over a decade into her fostering journey, Ffion is still as much a part of the Foster Wales community as she was at the beginning.

“I decided to become a foster carer about 15 years ago. I was a single parent at the time, my son is in his late 30s now and lives just down the road with his partner and little girl. I’m very much part of the community and giving something back has always been important to me. I’m doing my bit by fostering.”

“they had a tough start in life”

For Ffion, understanding where these children have come from is important.

“I have fostered quite a few children over the years, but the two boys living with me now have been on this journey with me since the beginning.”

“They had a tough start in life. Their mum was struggling with life a bit so couldn’t cope, and the boys ended up being taken into care.”

“I listen to them, I love them”

Providing care for children that need it is about offering them everything they need to flourish as people. That’s exactly what Ffion does.

“I think it’s important that they’ve had that consistency and stability in their lives. I listen to them. I love them. I tell them off when they’ve done something wrong. But, above all, I will always fight their corner.”

“They are why I foster. I have two fine young men setting out in life with hope after having a difficult start. To think that I’ve played a part in that, and will continue to do so as long as they want me in their lives, well, it just makes me feel wonderful.”
